Dolmades Recipe for Martin and Jacob

Ingredients

Jar of grape leaves (If you can find the kind in the really BIG jar that looks like a pickle jar, it’s MUCH easier to get those mofos out. Otherwise, good luck with the skinny jar. Get 2 jars if you get the skinny jar)

3 cups cooked rice. Sushi rice is good. Or Jasmine.

2 pkgs meatless grounds.

Greek Seasoning (basically a mixture of oregano, garlic, onion, lemon)

Lemon Pepper

Lemon Juice

Olive Oil

Optional for sauce: Cream of Mushroom Soup

Directions:

Cook the rice.

Heat up the meatless grounds in a large pan, add greek seasoning and lemon pepper to taste. Drizzle some olive oil all over that shit.

Mix the rice and meatless grounds mixture together. Add more seasoning/lemon juice and olive oil to taste.

Let the mixture cool and then wrap the stuff up like egg rolls in the grape leaves. Now you have dolmathes.

You can cook these low and slow in a dish in the oven, but it’s better to use a slow cooker.

Line the slow cooker with a layer of leaves and olive oil and then a layer of the dolmathes. Repeat the layering process until the dish or slow cooker is full. Use the lowest/longest setting on the slow cooker.

Optional sauce: Put some greek seasoning and lemon juice in the cream of mushroom soup.

I’m laying in bed, hungover, and I have a cat that weighs the equivalent of a raccoon holding a bowling ball sprawled across my midsection. He’s the only thing between me and that bag of Doritos in the kitchen that I am disgustingly craIing right now. Probably a good thing I guess.

It's mullet time

So every year… at least ONCE- I end up with a mullet-y haircut. Most of the time it’s when I actually go into a salon and ask for something that’s not a mullet. I usually cut my own hair, and that turns out surprisingly well- 98% of the time. I have a set of “rules” that I follow which I can only surmise is what keeps me from ending up with a mullet. This morning I decided “hey I’m gonna break all my rules today and see what happens”. And that’s how I know my rules are anti-mullet rules.

So for the next few months I’m going to have to strategically style my hair to hide the mullet-ness. UNLESS… mullets somehow get cool. And then I can sport it ironically. I guess I could sport it ironically anyway.

ANYWAY… gotta go do some damage control. YAY for my mullet haircut because it gave me blogging content today.

The new guy at work who is replacing me is pretty cool. He, Steve and I had a really fun conversation yesterday… just a really weird RANDOM conversation. I guess that’s to be expected, we’re a bunch of weirdo graphic designers.

Somehow we got to the topic of mincemeat. Which I guess… in the UK or something it’s what they call these little fruit pies. Ironically, there is no meat in these pies. The new guy (Adam) was saying how he feels disturbed by the addition of the word meat to other words. Like when people say “nut meat” when referring to the edible part of a nut. We tried adding the word meat to other random words as an experiment. I think the funniest one ended up being “manhole meat”. This happened because earlier we had been talking about an area of DC where the sewage gases had built up and caused the manhole covers to blast into the air.

Anyway, that was pretty much how yesterday went. And now… I gotta go. Boring post is boring.

So… I’m making sure I keep the blog momentum going. I will OFFICIALLY be on the road to Michigan tomorrow afternoon. I’M SO EXCITED!!!! I finally get to be with the love of my life, Kacee. She is pretty much the best thing that has ever happened to me. EVER!

Today I am training in my replacement at work. I am a graphic artist at a nonprofit in Washington DC. It’s a pretty chill job. My coworker/office-mate Steve says he’s gonna miss me though. Aw. We had some good times, Steve and I. He’s worried that the new guy won’t be cool. The thing about our job is… there is a lot of downtime. So… in between fulfilling graphic requests, we just kinda watch tv shows/movies online. It’s a great setup. As long as we get our work done, nobody cares what we do. We live in our own little bubble and pretty much keep our office door closed. LOL

I guess Steve is just worried the new guy might not adapt well to the environment… the last thing we’d want is extra attention. Like “hey, these guys don’t need to be here 40 hours a week” kind of attention. Steve and I follow a don’t ask, don’t tell policy, as in a “don’t ask us what we do on our downtime and we wont tell you there’s not enough work to keep us busy all day” policy. hahah

ANYWAY, I’m sure he’ll be fine. He’s gonna HAVE TO BE.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I CAN’T WAIT TO BE WITH MY BABY!!!!!! I LOVE HER SO MUCH.

I originally got this fancy tumblr with no real intention of ever using it until I realized: hey, I might maybe want to actually start blogging again.
